The updated costs of the CELPIP exam are as follows for the CELPIP General Test is costs around USD 280 plus taxes, and the CELPIP General – LS Test costs around USD 195 plus taxes. The CELPIP test cost around INR 10,845 plus taxes in India.

CELPIP Test Types

There are two types of tests for the CELPIP exam:

  • CELPIP General LS Test.
  • CELPIP General Test.

These two tests are all delivered in a computer-based format, and they also have different purposes and duration. 

Note that the listening and speaking test structure of both the CELPIP General Test and CELPIP General LS Test are the same. So make sure you choose the right one that is suited to your needs. Below are the details for each CELPIP test. 

CELPIP – General LS Test

The CELPIP General LS Test is only available in Canada. It assesses your two English language skills which include listening and speaking skills. The purpose of the CELPIP General LS Test is used for Canadian citizenship applications and other professional designations. 

It only takes about one hour and ten minutes to complete the whole CELPIP General LS Test, and it can also be done in one sitting only, meaning there is no other separate session for the different parts of the test. 

Also, the CELPIP General LS Test is fully approved and used by the IRCC for Citizenship Status applications. 

CELPIP – General Test

The CELPIP General Test is available and accessible in all CELPIP official testing centers. It assesses the four English language skills, including reading, listening, writing, and speaking skills. 

The purpose of the CELPIP General Test is used for Canadian permanent residence applications and other professional designations.

2. Reading Test

In this part of the CELPIP General Test, you are tasked to read passages and answer the follow-up questions. There are five sections for the reading test that contains a series of questions that you need to answer.

CELPIP Test Scoring

The CELPIP gives a score between one to twelve for each test section. Unlike other English language proficiency tests available in the market, the scoring for the CELPIP tests does not have half-band scores. Also, it has an increment of one point, and the minimum score for this test is zero. 

Each section of the CELPIP exam, including the CELPIP General Test and the CELPIP General LS Test, is given a CELPIP score. These CELPIP test scores are then converted to their corresponding Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) levels

The listening and reading test sections of CELPIP are scored directly by the computer. The questions in the listening and reading sections are in a multiple-choice question format. And it is generally scored by the number of correct items.

  • CELPIP Exam Registration and Requirements

    The CELPIP test offers three different modes of registration. They provide online registration and through the mail and in-person registration in their testing centers. Take note that the CELPIP testing centers do not accept walk-in registrations. 

    You need to process your exam application through the CELPIP Office at Paragon Testing Enterprises, located in Vancouver, should you wish to process it in person. However, it is advised to register online through their website or by mail due to the pandemic. 

    If you are in Canada and want to take the CELPIP test, you can download this PDF file and pay through Money Order, and this is a mail registration option for you to process your application for the CELPIP exam. However, this form registration is only applicable for those who are staying in the country.

    If you fail to present any valid identification cards or documents during your test date, you will not be allowed to enter the testing center and take the test. Also, there is no refund for your application or exam registration fee. 

    There is also another form for those test-takers that are below 18 years old. You need to mail the registration form at least four to six weeks before your desired test date. 

    For international test-takers, you can register for the CELPIP exam online via the official website. First, you need to create an account on their website and provide all the necessary information required. You are asked to choose a date and a venue near you. 

    If you sign up for an account for the exam, you can access a free practice test, purchase study materials, view your test scores, and more. Once you are done with the registration process, you will receive an email confirmation, and you are to bring a printed copy of the email. 

    The email confirmation contains the following information: your test registration number, your name, sitting information that provides the address of the test center, date, and time. And it also contains information about the identification documents you need to bring on your test schedule. 

    For exam cancellation, you can do so through your CELPIP account on their website. A fifty percent refund of your fee is granted to you if you have filed your cancellation at least nine days before your scheduled test date. 

    However, if you cancel less than nine days of your scheduled test date, your cancellation request will still be accepted, but you will not receive a refund. 

    There are exam schedules available every month across the CELPIP testing centers locations worldwide. It means that you can easily take the test according to your desired schedule. If, in any case, you have failed the CELPIP exam, you can retake it after 30 days of your previous CELPIP exam schedule.
